PAAE: Eastern Edition

 Last fall, PSU Ag Ed 23 popped into the Northern Regional PAAE Meeting. This spring, we got to attend the regional meetings of our cooperating teachers! On Tuesday, Mr. Masser, Mrs. VanSant, and I traveled to Conrad Weiser High School for the Eastern Regional PAAE meeting. We also brought a senior from Pequea Valley to attend SOCS with the state officers!

        I love attending these events because I get to network with new teachers- especially since I hail from the west side of the state. I have also never gotten to see all of the cool things that Conrad Weiser does within their ag program, so it was a win-win! I also got to see fellow cohort members Lauren and Grace. It was really good to see them as we gear up for the end of our student teaching internship.

        Upon arrival at Conrad Weiser, Lauren, Grace, and I took a quick self-guided tour to check out the facilities. We were immediately impressed! There is a research greenhouse, a beautiful ag lab, an ag library, small barn with a rooftop garden, animal science facilities hosting two pigs, and much, much more!

        We also got to share a meal with the current teachers, then head to the LGI room for the business meeting. We covered several different important matters including next year's budget, this year's state convention and activities week, and the future of SAE. It was encouraging to be in a room with passionate educators that want the best for their current and future students. 

        I felt welcomed from the large crowd of teachers that attended last night. I appreciate their support as a young educator just getting my feet wet in the world of agricultural education. 

        Our participant in SOCS also had a great time attending. This student valued the relationships they were able to create and the experience they gathered during the event.

A Wild Ride Comes to An End

         This semester has been CRAZY to say the least... but my heart hurts knowing that I am leaving Pequea Valley.  A Walking Bundle of Nerves           I remember being so scared my very first day! I was only familiar with one of the students in my class- he came to National FFA Convention with us to compete in the Poultry Evaluation CDE. And for some of these students, this was their very first ag class! That was enough pressure on its own! But all of these new, little faces staring at me because  I was in charge. WE ARE.... Seniors?

           It's crazy for me to think about that I am ACTUALLY a senior in college... I definitely do not feel this old. Becoming a Penn State Ag Ed senior has kept me busy this summer with quite a few super cool experiences. Since it has been a while since you have heard from me, let me fill you in on what you may have missed! #PSUAgEd23 cohort's first day of school picture! A Summer Without Cows          If you know me, you know that I absolutely love cows (Jerseys, if you know me well). This summer was the first summer in 4 years that I was not in a parlor or a calf barn spending my whole summer a part of one of my favorite agricultural industries. SAE Day!

 On March 9th, I got to go on my very first SAE visit! If you are anything like I was only a few years ago, you probably have no idea what "SAE" means, and why I'm conducting an SAE visit.  What is SAE? SAE is an acronym for "Supervised Agricultural Experience", and it is exactly what it sounds like. We utilize the opportunity of Supervised Agricultural Experiences for learners to get experience in different agricultural fields outside  of the classroom. SAE helps FFA members to obtain FFA degrees, proficiency awards, career exposure, and even school credit! There is so much more that goes into SAE, as well as numerous other benefits, but that's a story for another time:)  My First SAE Visit!
