Kicking it at Kennard-Dale

Image
On March 10th, I was able to take a day that we didn't have school and visit one of my cohort members, Anna. Anna is student teaching at Kennard-Dale high school in Fawn Grove, PA.      Being new to the world of agricultural education, I haven't seen too many programs other than where I am student teaching now (Pequea Valley). It was really cool to travel to Fawn Grove and hang out with Anna while she taught that Friday. I really liked seeing how she managed her classroom and created relationships with her students.  Anna potting plants with her Plant and Soil Studies class!     I really liked seeing howAnna and I teach the same class (Vet Science) differently. Her class was also half the size of mine, so it was cool to see the different ways that she interacted with them and utilized classroom discussion. I also enjoyed watching how different her groups of students were. Her leadership class was very interactive and involved in classroom disc...

SAE Day!

On March 9th, I got to go on my very first SAE visit! SAE is an acronym for "Supervised Agricultural Experience", and it is exactly what it sounds like. PV FFA member with her horse, Mouse           Now for the moment you have all been waiting for: hearing about my very first ever SAE visit! Ag teachers will conduct SAE visits to see (in person) all of the cool things that their members are up to. A...

My First ACES... as Ms. Mathias!

Image
This past weekend, I was fortunate enough to attend my very first ACES (Agricultural Cooperation Establishes Success) leadership conference with my cooperating center, Pequea Valley. We brought 11 FFA members that participated in several different leadership workshops. The bunch that we brought are all so bright and natural born leaders, and I was super excited to see them engage with members from across the state.  Our awesome, awesome ACES group!          Things were a little different on the advisor end. I spent my afternoon planning for the upcoming weeks and mingling with ag teachers from other programs. I have met a lot of really cool people within the last year, so it was fun to see some of them again at ACES. Being at ACES in more of an advisor position also posed more responsibilities; checking members into their rooms, making sure they were where they were supposed to be, keeping them on task and on time, etcetera, etcet...
