Peer Review Process
1st Unit Plan in the Books!
At the end of week 4, we are officially turning in our very first unit plans. In order to make sure that these unit plans were the best they could be, we engaged in two peer-review processes. We each reviewed two of our cohort members' unit plans while two members reviewed our unit plans. In between reviewers, we were able to revise our plans in order to make them the best we could.
Ah-ha Moments
I definitely had a few instances that almost felt like a "slap in the face". Simple ones like organizational pieces where I had two separate tables: one for materials, and one for lesson titles and objectives. A cohort member of mine mentioned that I could combine the two tables to maximize the space in my unit plan. That is something that I will definitely be trying in my future unit plans.
Another cohort member mentioned a suggestion about my unit rational and how I lacked industry statistics to highlight the importance of the unit. I really appreciated this feedback because providing industry examples in the unit rational helps to exemplify the relevance of the unit in the classroom.
Elements Tied to Course Content
To me, BECOV was brought from our AEE 412 course into our unit planning venture. We needed to know and understand when and where to use each of the five characteristics of effective teaching throughout our unit plans. Our assessments can show variability where certain demonstrations exhibit enthusiasm, opportunity to learn, and business-like behavior. All of these are shown through unit planning and were extremely important for us to learn as we created our first unit plan.
Room for Improvement
My organizational skills could definitely use some work. I want to merge my materials table into my lesson title and objectives table to conserve space in my unit plan. My hope is that this will make my unit plans appear less cluttered and busy, as well as be easier to follow along and find things.
My unit logistics can also be improved. It is difficult to plan a unit when you do not know exactly how many students you will be teaching, in addition to not knowing the exact resources you will have access to, but I am sure that this aspect of my unit plans will improve with time and experience.
Krista,
ReplyDeleteFormat is a hard thing to judge from a peer perspective, because what could look cluttered to some else could make a lot of sense to you. Just make sure you are always doing what is best for yourself and not design it for other approval! Keep up the great work!
