First Day, Third Week!

First Day of School?

This week, #psuaged23 was tasked with creating a lesson plan for the first day of school. I was a little nervous, but I ended up having a lot of fun creating it! I was able to include some of my personality throughout my lesson plan- especially my interest approach.

After we created our lesson plans, we taught a 10 minute snippet in our lab groups. This activity related to what I already knew about teaching and learning especially through the activities that we did and the environment that we created. Many of us did fun introductory activities to start the class, then dove into classroom expectations. Both of which I remember my own teachers doing from elementary school clear through college.

I was able to learn a lot from completing this experience. One of the key things that I learned is that it is important to keep students engaged- especially for first impressions. When I was in high school, I know that my thoughts about teachers did not change much after the first day. I could tell when I was really going to like a teacher/class and when I was not going to like a teacher/class by the first day. Creating an exciting and engaging classroom experience is vital for the first day of class, especially as a student teacher.

I can apply this new knowledge as an agriscience teacher by creating an interactive set of classroom expectations. Letting my students help create our expectations will help them feel a sense of accountability in the classroom as these are their expectations. I know that creating classroom expectations together is definitely something that I will use when I begin student teaching. I am also excited, but nervous, to see how I will maintain classroom engagement. I am sure that somedays will be harder than others, but I am up for the challenge.
Personally, I love to have fun. I cant wait to have fun on the first day of school in January!

Cohort picture day!

Thanks for checking in!
Lots of Love,

  1. Krista,
I have thought a lot about my classroom management techniques, and I too get a little nervous thinking about how I am going to want to manage my class. I think a lot of it comes from the fact that we do not really know what we want yet outside of the basics. We have to learn more about ourselves as educators to create a space that works best for our students.
